My Gear

I get questions on my photo, travel, and editing gear. I hope this helps shed some light - happy travels (:

EDITING GEAR

Photo & Video Editing Softwares

  • Topaz Labs - I cannot recommend this enough for both photo and video edits! Anytime I have a photo that’s blurry or too noisy, I’m able to use Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI to recover it in ways that other editing tools cannot. Also Topaz Video AI is insane when applied to my videos. And their Gigapixel AI has enabled a number of my photos to be printed onto large canvases which otherwise wouldn’t have qualified due to low resolution.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud - Capturing the photos is half the battle. The other half is spent behind the computer bringing the raw photos back to life. I honestly take equal pleasure in both shooting and editing. And for all my edits, my primary software is Adobe Lightroom and, to a lesser degree, Adobe Photoshop. Between these two programs, I feel in full control of the stories I can tell through my photographs.

Music & Sound FX Subscriptions

  • Epidemic Sound - Whenever I need royalty-free sound effects or music tracks that work for my reels and youtube videos, I go here first. Click on the link and get 7 days free!

  • Artlist.io - This is the perfect 1-2 punch. When I can’t find what I need on ES, I find it here, and vice versa.

Physical & Digital Storage

  • Samsung 4TB T7 Shield SSD - Do NOT buy the Sandisk 4TB! I’ve had two of them break down on me within a year of usage, whereas these Samsung ones are just as portable without any of the durability issues.

  • Backblaze Cloud Storage - When I first heard about this service, I thought it was too good to be true. Much cheaper than other cloud storage AND unlimited data backup? And yet, I can soundly confirm it’s real. I even purchased a physical backup of all my photos which shipped to me relatively quickly. This combined with my physical storage, it gives me the peace of mind that my photos are safely backed up no matter the circumstances. Here’s a link that compares the service to others.

  • RAID Hard Drive Arrays - For my home setup, I utilize an 8TB RAID hard drive to store my content. Then I back it up via Backblaze to ensure it’s further protected.

CAMERA GEAR

Cameras

  • Nikon Z9 - My main workhorse. I use it for every type of shoot: landscapes, wildlife, portraits, long exposures, you name it. It’s a powerful beast that handles all travel conditions I throw at it. Now, is a more expensive camera necessary? Not entirely. Some of my favorite photos I took on my very first camera the Sony A6000 paired with a prime lens - I even got large prints of the photos I took! The main difference is durability and also the amount of post-processing time you save with the more professional cameras. With the Nikon Z9, the photos often come out ready to be displayed whereas on my Sony A6000, I’d have to spend countless hours editing the images to get it “gallery worthy”.

  • Nikon Z8 - When I travel, I like this as my second camera.

Lenses

  • Nikkor Z 20mm F/1.8 S - My primary lens for recording selfie videos as well as when I’m on camera in my home studio setup.

  • Nikkor Z 24-70mm F/2.8 S - Combined with my Nikon Z6, this is flawless. Much lighter than the 24-70mm equivalent for DSLRs.

  • Nikkor Z 70-200mm F/2.8 S - This is a beast, especially when I shoot wildlife and street photography.

  • Nikkor Z 400mm F/2.8 S - Oh sorry did I say the 70-200mm is a beast? Well then this is the Behemoth. My primary wildlife lens.

  • Nikkor Z 135mm F/1.8 S - Quite possibly the most aesthetically designed lens of the group, and the quality is unmatched.

Tripod

  • Peak Design Carbon Fiber Tripod - Not only well-designed, it handles my 400mm lens + gimbal with ease

  • ProMediaGear GKJr Katana Gimbal Head - A necessity when shooting with a 400mm+ lens. This combined with my tripod allows for one of the more lightweight yet durable combos for travel photography.

  • SwitchPod - This is my favorite mobile tripod. No wasted time, just a flick of the wrist and you’re ready to shoot!

Accessories

  • PolarPro VND Filter - The secret to cinematic travel videos? These filters are a must that I keep on my lens at all time. You can also create your first account on PolarPro’s website using this link to get $5 off your first order,

  • Peak Design Camera Strap - Everything Peak Design creates is..peak design. This is no exception. It even holds my Z9 + 400mm lens with ease.

TRAVEL GEAR

Gonna save you some time and put a link here to Peak Designs. Their name says it all.

Backpacks

  • Gitzo Adventury Backpack (45L) - This is my primary travel backpack that I cannot live without. Not only does it fit carry-on, it can fit my 400mm lens attached to my camera inside.

  • Peak Design Travel Line Backpack 30-45L - I’ve gone through close to a dozen different travel bags, and THIS was my first gamechanger backpack. It fits carry-on, has so many features perfect for travel photographers, and is exceptionally durable. When I don’t need to pack the 400mm lens, this is my go-to bag.

  • Peak Design Everyday Sling 10L - I bring this on every trip now as my day bag. Usually I’ll have my Nikon Z6 inside.
